Where Ice Accumulates, Flowers Cling to the Rocks

Digital Photographs | 2016

“The flower carves its path, resists, and sparkles in the sun. A brief life in an arid landscape. Blooming before winter’s return.”

In the photographic series Là où s’accumulent les glaces, les fleurs s’accrochent aux rochers, Claudette Lemay documents the land, not to showcase its vastness or aridity, but to focus on its delicate details, adopting an intimate perspective on nature. The artist’s presence—her hand as a vector or marker—interacts with a fragment of the ground, creating a photographic herbarium of flowers and tundra in Nunavik.
