Stone Rubbings

Series of drawings | 2022…

“She leans over the rocks, scraping the paper with small, sharp, delicate strokes. The sounds resonate, cracking, both high and low.”

– Claudette Lemay, Visite au camp, 2023

Drawing as an imprint of the place. Exploring its materiality through rubbings becomes a performative gesture that engages the entire body. I often say that I don’t know how to draw. The stone rubbing allows me to dive in freely, without preconceptions or judgment. The landscape disappears beneath the paper to be reborn with each stroke of the pencil. Also recommended as a meditative exercise!
