Jellyfish

SD video | 2006

“A game on the beach that evokes both fascination and repulsion.”

Terra Nova National Park. Far from home, in the woods. My first artist residency. I set off with my new video camera and an overwhelming need to leave the studio and film in the open air… This experience marked a turning point in my practice, paving the way for a new body of work connected to nature. It all began with micro-landscapes. In this video, I focused on a jellyfish stranded on the beach. Was it dead, or still slightly alive? As much as I found it beautiful, it also frightened me.

A long take filmed during an artist residency at Terra Nova National Park, in collaboration with The Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador and Parks Canada.
