A Day in the Pinhole Camera

Digital Photography | 2008

“From the inside, observe the slow transformation of the landscape following the path of the Sun.”

In this photographic series, I combine an ancient technique (pinhole camera) with digital technology.

Banff Centre, Alberta, November 10. Inside the studio transformed into a pinhole camera, the outside landscape is projected upside down. It takes my eyes a few minutes to adjust and perceive it. I set myself the constraint of taking a digital photograph of this “landscaped” interior space every 15 minutes, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. A meditative day during which I do only this: wait for the moment of the next shot. In the intervals, I write a little or do nothing. In silence and dim light.

32 digital photographs, inkjet prints on cotton paper, mounted on plexiglass, 8 x 10 inches.
I thank the Banff Centre and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
Presented at Galerie Donald Browne in Montreal in 2006 and at Galerie Sans Nom in Moncton in 2007.
