“Claudette Lemay thus makes walking her motif, which she also expresses as a symbol of the passage of time—an inexorable march if ever there was one.”
– Julie Bélisle, “Capturing Time” in Cubicule, 2006
We approach the scaled-down house—a representation that also alludes to the building we all inhabit—with an irresistible urge to peer inside. On its roof, we find a tiny square opening, and as we draw closer, we instinctively close one eye to better immerse the other. Through this, we discover a garden of clovers being walked upon by a solitary figure. The outdoor space is thus projected into the enclosed interior, creating an inversion that captivates us. Jardin takes on the appearance of an isolated island, where a semblance of nature resides.
