MY DAY IN THE PINHOLE CAMERA | installation | 30 photos 8 in x 10 in | 2008 |
For this photography project, which I began at the Banff Centre, I combined a very old technique — the pinhole camera — with digital technology.
Banff Centre, Alberta, November 10. Transforming the studio into a pinhole camera. The landscape outside penetrates inside, projected upside down. My eyes need some time to adjust before being able to see it. The constraint I’ve given myself: take a digital photo of this interior “landscaped” space every 15 minutes. From 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A meditative day where all I do is this: wait for the arrival of the next shot, in a few minutes. In the intervening period, I write a little or do nothing. In the silent semi-darkness. From the inside, observe the slow transformation of the landscape following the sun’s course.
Thanks to The Banff Centre and to Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
My Day in the pinhole camera was presented at Galerie Donald Browne in Montréal (2006) and at Galerie sans nom in Monction (2007).
